How the audit works
Thirteen checks, weights sum to 100 — tap any check to see what it verifies and why it matters.
01AI crawler access (robots.txt)
25 pts
What we check: We fetch your robots.txt and check whether GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and PerplexityBot are allowed to crawl your pages.
Why it matters: If a crawler is blocked, the model never reads your content, so it cannot quote you. This is the most common reason a site is invisible in AI answers.
02Answer-first structure (BLUF)
15 pts
What we check: We check whether your key pages state their main answer in the opening section, before long context or narrative.
Why it matters: AI answers are assembled from extractable passages. A page that buries its answer under an anecdote gives the model nothing clean to quote.
03FAQ / question-shaped content
10 pts
What we check: We look for a question-and-answer section or FAQBlock markup matching the queries your page targets.
Why it matters: Question-shaped headings map directly onto how people ask AI assistants. A page that answers those shapes literally is easier to lift from.
04Content freshness
8 pts
What we check: We look for dates in your content and sitemap (dateModified, <time> tags, lastmod) and check whether the last update is under 90 days old.
Why it matters: Fresh, dated content earns roughly 1.8x more citations. Answer engines prefer recently-updated sources, especially for time-sensitive queries.
05Authorship / E-E-A-T signals
7 pts
What we check: We check for a named author with a bio page, linked from the article with author markup.
Why it matters: Answer engines weight content from identifiable, credible authors higher. Anonymous content is cited less and outranked by attributed rivals.
06Entity graph (sameAs / rel=me)
6 pts
What we check: We check that your site links its identity to external profiles — sameAs connections to places like LinkedIn or GitHub.
Why it matters: Entity links let models confirm your site belongs to a real person or organisation, which is a prerequisite for being cited as a source.
07Keyword density in range
8 pts
What we check: We measure keyword frequency across your text and flag pages where any term is unnaturally dense.
Why it matters: Keyword stuffing reads as manipulation and measurably reduces citability. Natural prose is what gets quoted verbatim.
08JSON-LD structured data
4 pts
What we check: We parse your JSON-LD blocks and check they are valid and readable.
Why it matters: Hygiene, not a citation lever: engines extract facts from visible text, and controlled studies find no direct ranking effect. But valid JSON-LD helps engines resolve WHO you are — we weight it small and honestly.
09Author/Organization schema
3 pts
What we check: We check for an Organization or Person JSON-LD block that states who runs the site.
Why it matters: Without an entity block, an engine cannot resolve who is behind the content — a prerequisite for citing it as a credible source.
10Valid HTTPS
3 pts
What we check: We confirm the site is served over HTTPS.
Why it matters: Plain HTTP is distrusted or refused outright by crawlers and browsers. No HTTPS means effectively no visibility in AI answers.
11Canonical URL present
4 pts
What we check: We check for a <link rel="canonical"> tag pointing at the preferred version of the page.
Why it matters: Without a canonical, duplicate versions of your content can outrank the original — and the engine may cite the copy, not you.
12Mobile viewport meta
3 pts
What we check: We check for a viewport meta tag so the page renders correctly on mobile.
Why it matters: Crawlers index mobile-first. A page with no viewport is downgraded before content quality is even considered.
13OpenGraph / social cards
4 pts
What we check: We verify og:title, og:description, and og:image are present and well-formed.
Why it matters: OpenGraph data is how your content is summarised when shared and how models pick up a clean headline description of the page.
What we don't check
We only scan what is publicly accessible. We do not crawl anything behind a login or paywall, and we never ask for access to your CMS, hosting, or analytics. We also do not judge your writing quality or taste — subjective content scoring is out of scope. The audit measures machine-readable signals, nothing else.
